Have you ever wondered about the science behind you wanting to indulge on chocolate when you are stressed? Although you may think that it is because you are a “stress eater”, this actually happens because your mind craves to reduce stress hormones and is needing a boost of dopamine.
That is exactly what chocolate does. Amongst other benefits of chocolate, it is a stress reducer first and foremost. But if you’re going to indulge on it, might as well pick the dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa) because that’s where are the benefits are hidden.

Most importantly, because the heart is most important, eating dark chocolate reduces chances of having a heart attack or stroke. The plant substance, flavonoid, relaxes the blood vessels which in turn reduces the risk of having an attack.
Flavonoids also normalize blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels. Dark chocolate contains copper and magnesium which play a huge role in normalizing blood pressure.
The antioxidants in dark chocolate help increase blood flow; especially to the brain which in turn helps those who fight anemia, and also can improve eye sight. I’ve even heard that dark chocolate has anti-inflammatory properties.
Skin-Beauty Benefits of Dark Chocolate:
Dark chocolate reduces collagen breakdown in skin which helps minimize wrinkles. It helps the skin to have a healthy glow and most importantly, it actually protects the skin from UV damage. (I recently wrote a review of a contour palette that is infused with cocoa antioxidants; I enjoy putting product on my face that I know is actually good for me).
We all know that UV damage can be deadly as it causes Cancer. Eating dark chocolate can help your chances of not having skin cancer. Now, that’s a win! Flavonoid, the antioxidant in dark chocolate, also helps keep the skin hydrated and thick.

Number one reason why we begin to have thinning hair is due to the lack of blood circulation to the scalp. Dark chocolate helps boost blood circulation and even in the scalp which in turn increases hair growth and reduces hair loss.
